A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.
Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.

GreenBarriers is an open collaborative process exploring new ways to restore degraded soils and ecosystems. Starting with a first pilot in Almazarán, the project combines real-world experimentation with a parallel participatory assembly where actors come together to exchange knowledge, coordinate actions, and co-design solutions.
The pathway connects landowners, restoration experts, cooperatives, researchers and organizations to test practical approaches to soil regeneration. Insights from the Almazarán pilot feed directly into the GreenBarriers Assembly, enabling collective learning and helping to shape scalable restoration models that can be adapted and replicated in other territories.
We are opening this space to the SoilTribes Community of Practice as an invitation to participate directly in shaping a model of ecosystem restoration that actually works — ecologically, socially and economically. This is not about observing. It is about contributing.
We are looking for people and organizations who can:
→ Share data or knowledge that could unlock restoration (soil data, land access, biodiversity indicators, local insights)
→ Help translate existing data into actionable decisions for landowners and practitioners
→ Bring tools, technologies or methodologies that can be tested in real conditions
→ Connect us with land, communities or local actors facing similar challenges
→ Contribute to designing governance and financing models that make restoration viable
→ Join or support on-the-ground actions, including regenerative volunteering
The Almazarán pilot is our starting point, but the goal is to learn fast, together, and build something that can be replicated across territories.
Rather than implementing a large-scale network from the start, GreenBarriers focuses on developing and testing a local pilot project. This approach allows participants to validate methods, technologies and governance models before expanding the initiative to other territories.
The process encourages collaboration between different actors including local cooperatives, environmental experts, companies interested in climate responsibility, and institutions supporting ecosystem restoration.
GreenBarriers aims to generate ecological, social and economic value by restoring degraded ecosystems, creating local employment opportunities and strengthening community knowledge around regenerative land management.
